When it comes to boats for freshwater fishing the
choice of boat is endless and so is the advice you will get from all
manner of freshwater fisho's. This was my experience when I first went
out looking for my first boat with absolutely no previous experience in
boatmanship to assist me. But the best sound advice I got was to spend
as much you can afford and be sure you are clear on what you want your
boat to do. Once
I had this all in perspective I then made a point of seeing what other
people were using out
on the Lakes and on the river. As I was in the market for a boat that I
could confidently navigate the waterways of the Murray-Darling basin and
use it to cast lures and fly fish from it soon became clear to me that
the most popular boat being used and admired by other fisho's was the
Quintrex range of Hornet Trophy's. And I could see why, as it did look the part
and had a great set-up. The first one I saw I just fell in love with and
knew I just had to have one. Another reason that helped make my choice
easy was the amount of Hornet's that are used by the "who's
who" of freshwater fishing at the "Mulwala Classic"
fishing competition. It seemed that 2 out of three boats were Quintrex's
and most of these were Hornets of various sizes. I
have been a passenger in alot
of V-nose punts and you soon realise when there is a bit of a breeze and
chop it doesn’t take long to get drowned like a rat but with the Quintrex Hornet range and it's uniquely designed flared hulls, this
problem is but a mere memory. To me, the thought of never getting wet
again in a tinnie is one reason why these boats are so popular and they
should sell just for this reason alone. These great looking hulls are in
their element when you are motoring over the water in the chop, the bow
cuts through the water as if it was a V-Hull and yet the ride is still
smooth and when you are stationary tossing a few lures its as stable as
any V-nose punt boat that I have been in. In
the Hornet Trophy range there are some great fit out's with forward and
rear casting
decks, wide open plan floor space, live bait tanks, battery compartment
and plenty of cupboard space. All these features are standard in this
series and there are some great optional extras you can get like 40ltr
under floor fuel tank and various console arrangements. These are very
sturdy units and do weigh a little extra than most and need a little bit
of extra horsepower to get up and going but once you are up on plane
it's just pure comfort and complete dryness. And also, these hulls are
able to cope with bigger outboards than most tinnies of their size. After
all is said and done there is great scope left for the ever-thinking
fisho to do some modifications and add-ons that will have your boat
being the envy of the freshwater fleet. The possibilities are endless and I have some pictures of some of the things I have done
to my boat (see link below) that may be of some use. These boats are the
higher end of their field but you will soon find that you get what you
paid for and will not be disappointed. And you will also end up like the
rest of us Hornet owners and speak of its praises and you will know you
made the right choice. Recommendations The team @ GOODOO DREAMING use & recommend
