Friends of the Murray Cod are organisations & individuals that show a true passion and respect for the "magnificent legend of the Murray", the Murray Cod. Their undying efforts and mostly selfless contributions are what the Murray Cod need if they are to survive and endure the altered environment that the Murray-Darling basin is today. It is for this reason why Goodoo Dreaming proudly promotes them here and urges everyone to lend them all the support that you can give. The "friends of the Murray Cod" are not all necessarily organised groups or volunteers but are fishing Writers, commercial or private website administrators, C&R fisherman and internet chatboard user's or even a small donator of a couple of bucks to the cause. Just as long as you are contributing to the well being of the Murray Cod population we consider you a true "Friend of the Murray Cod".

Non Profit Organisations


Native Fish Australia are an independent volunteer organisation that cares for the long term existence of healthy native fish stocks and their environments. They operate soley from funding by membership subscriptions and donations by organisations or individuals. If you would like to obtain more information click on the link above.	The Rex Hunt Futurefish Foundation is an independent, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to ensure that all Australians can enjoy the wonderful benefits of recreational fishing now and in future generations. The Foundation, established by Rex Hunt, aims to replenish fish stocks, repair damaged environments and help those less fortunate to be part of the greatest sport of all - FISHING!

Government Fisheries Organisations

Without doubt the major players in the future of the Murray Cod are our government fisheries departments, as they are responsible for implementing and policing our fishing regulations and also responsible for the monitoring and caring of our flora & fauna. These "public" departments are there for the interest of the land and the people of this great country of ours and as a whole they do a great job considering the budget constraints and political pressure that is placed on them. Although there are many people who are shaking their heads right now and not agreeing totally here, but love them or hate them they are however the custodians and decision makers of our environment. But as we all know in the fickle world of Australian politics decisions are made that tend to get us all a little steamy under the collar when things are not so agreeable but none the less these are the major players and it is up to us to ensure that they know what we want. With the use of the Internet it has become very easy to get in contact directly to the Fisheries Minister's and Manager's and let them know how you feel about an issue or what your recommendations are to help resolve an issue. You will be surprised on the response you will get back and if you have written a fair and sensible article you will always receive a reply, but you must give them a correct return mailing (postal) address or you may not get a reply. I have personally communicated many times with our Fisheries Departments and Minister's for that matter and would usually receive a reply every time. So get to it and start writing now and let them know your ideas and feelings about concerns.
